This is determined by changes in your blood sugar levels. After about eight hours without food, your blood glucose will begin to dip. 12 hour fast At 12 hours Is when yo tap into your glycogen, which is your stored blood sugar reserves and your blood glucose levels will stabilize. At this time you will start switching into the early stages of ketosis. This is the metabolic state that occurs when the body runs short of glucose and stops relying on carbohydrates for fuel. Our body then seeks out an alternative fuel source and your liver begins breaking down “adipose tissue,” which is your stored body fat in a process called fatty acid oxidation. A byproduct of this process is the creation of ketone bodies which are used to power the brain, heart and skeletal muscle. 16 hour - 18 hour fast After 16 to 18 hours, you should be in ketosis. It regulates sex drive and plays a vital role in sperm production. It also regulates bone and muscle mass, affects the way men store body fat and helps with the production of red blood cells – the blood cells that move oxygen throughout your body. Women also have this hormone, but in much smaller amounts. In fact, T has some effects that mimic estrogen the female sex hormone in women, including protecting bones and keeping them strong. ▶️ What are the risks of low levels of testosterone? KETO, CAULIFLOWER POWER, PROTEIN PIZZA CRUST ONLY 4 INGREDIENTS. GLUTEN FREE Welcome to my recipe for keto, low carb, cauliflower power, protein pizza crust with only 4 ingredients. This is a perfect ketogenic, low carbohydrate, high fat and high protein meal. This crust is sooo good that like me, you will end up making a few at a time and freezing them for a quick and healthy meal later. The best part is that are not any unpronounceable chemical additives or ingredients. Simple, Clean and Wholesome! Macronutrients Nutritional Information (without toppings) Net carbohydrate 6 g Protein 40 g Calories 400 Fiber 4.5 g Saturated Fat 11.5 g Ingredients Cauliflower - 2 cups Shredded Parmesan Cheese - 2 ounces Egg - 1 whole Protein Powder (unflavored) - 1/2 scoop (12 g protein) *Note- it is best to use a "shredded" hard cheese as opposed to "grated" cheese as this will help hold our crust together. How to prepare 1- Shred the cauliflower (or try riced cauliflower). 2- Heat stove to a low/med temperature. 3- In a non stick pan without any oil add the cauliflower. 4- This is to steam the moisture out of the cauliflower. Otherwise our crust will be too soggy. 5- Let the cauliflower cool for a few minutes 6- In a mixing bowl add the cauliflower, parmesan cheese, one egg and protein powder. Mix well until the texture becomes paste like. 7- Spread the mixture thin and evenly onto a parchment paper. 8- Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes. 9- Flip the crust and bake the other side for 5 to 10 minutes (depending on thickness). 10- Top as you like and bake for another 10 minutes. OR… Freeze the crust either "as is" or "topped." If frozen bake at 400°F for 15 minutes. You will be amazed how the texture matches that of oatmeal. This a perfect meal to pair with you ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting lifestyle as there are many health benefits to the ingredients in this recipe that will aid you in your fat loss journey. The hemp and chia seeds are a great source of omega 3, protein and soluble fiber. Soluble fiber feeds the good bacteria in your gut microbiome and converts into short chain fatty acids. These short chain fatty acids help you to maintain a healthy weight and regulate fat loss in the body by activating something called AMPK (activated protein kinase) which is a metabolic switch in your body that signals it to burn stored fat. Your macronutrient (macros) needs may not be the same as the next person. I will show you how to calculate your macros based on your individual needs. Carbs We will be utilizing high fiber, whole foods such as cruciferous vegetables, nuts and seeds as our carbohydrate sources. Protein This is the macro in which we will base our fat intake off of. You need to be sure that you are eating sufficient protein to maintain and build muscle. Muscle will increase our metabolism and help us burn more calories. Fat We will then fill in the gaps in our diet with the fats. Contrary to many misconceptions regarding the ketogenic diet we do not want to take in too much fat. More fat does not equal more keto and you can end up storing it. We will also cover how fat adaptation works, how to know when your body has become fat adapted and a couple of tips and tricks to accelerate fat adaptation. It lowers blood sugar and insulin levels and shifts the body’s metabolism away from carbs and toward fat and ketones. When you consume foods that contain carbohydrates, the body converts those carbohydrates into glucose, or blood sugar, which it then uses for energy. The goal is to get more calories from fat than from carbs. ▶️ How does Keto Diet work? The diet works by depleting the body of its sugar reserves. As a result, it will start to break down fat for energy. This results in the production of molecules called ketones that the body uses for fuel when the body burns fats, it can also lead to weight loss. ▶️ Explanation of keto diet: Normally carbohydrates in food are converted into glucose (aka sugar), which is then utilized by the body as fuel. The body can only hold so much glucose in blood at any given time. If you have an excess of glucose/sugar in your bloodstream the body will then release your fat storing hormone called insulin to regulate the glucose. Insulin will then store the unused glucose as adipose tissue or fat cells. But if we just simply lower our carbohydrate and sugar intake, the body is then forced to switch to an alternative fuel source. Without glucose as fuel, the liver then converts our fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. These ketone bodies replace glucose as an energy source. This elevated level of ketone bodies in the blood is called being in ketosis.
